Checkpoints during B cell development ensure that immune cells won’t confuse the self for an intruder. At birth, many B cells express self-reactive receptors. Most of the...
متن کاملImplantation Serine Proteinase 1 Exhibits Mixed Substrate Specificity that Silences Signaling via Proteinase-Activated Receptors
Implantation S1 family serine proteinases (ISPs) are tryptases involved in embryo hatching and uterine implantation in the mouse. The two different ISP proteins (ISP1 and ISP2) have been detected in both pre- and post-implantation embryo tissue. To date, native ISP obtained from uterus and blastocyst tissues has been isolated only as an active hetero-dimer that exhibits trypsin-like substrate s...

Primary cancer cell dissemination is a key event during the metastatic cascade, but context-specific determinants of this process remain largely undefined. Multiple reports have suggested that the p53 (TP53) family member p63 (TP63) plays an antimetastatic role through its minor epithelial isoform containing the N-terminal transactivation domain (TAp63). However, the role and contribution of th...

almost impossible even to ask many of these questions clearly without understanding statistics and computational approaches. And these problems require ever-sharper experimental tools, many of which will come from exploiting highly specific chemical reactions and interactions. What are the main challenges you see for the biomedical science community? We are tackling more genomes, ever more prot...
متن کاملEricifolin: a novel antitumor compound from allspice that silences androgen receptor in prostate cancer.
Silencing of androgen receptor (AR) signaling is a specific and effective mechanism to cure cancer of the prostate (CaP). In this study, the isolation and characterization of a compound from the aromatic berries of Pimenta dioica (allspice) that silences AR is presented. Potential antitumor activities of an aqueous allspice extract (AAE) and a compound purified from the extract were tested on C...
